Grid Metals is a steel and raw materials trading company focused on South Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.

WHO ARE WE

Grid Metals was created through the management buyout of Stemcor South Africa from the Stemcor Group in August 2017.  We remain agents for the Stemcor Group in South Africa.

Our team consists of 7 highly experienced staff with a combined 188 years in the steel industry and 146 years with Stemcor SA, now Grid Metals.   This means an average staff service of 21 years, which has generated an unusually close-knit team that is committed to all aspects of the business.

WHAT WE BELIEVE IN

Regular repeat business is what we strive for, and we are focused on identifying and sourcing the right suppliers for our customers.  The “right supplier” is defined as the company offering the right quality, price and delivery service.  Historically, our policy of open dialogue, joint visits to suppliers and customers, and transparent communication has enabled us to develop long term relationships between all parties – an achievement of which we are justly proud.

WHAT’S IN THE NAME

After much thought, we settled on GRID Metals, with the letters taken from the two “founders” of Grid Metals, GRaham Cromme and BrIDget Boardman.

WHAT AND WHERE DO WE SELL

  • Import of steel and steel related products into South Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.
  • Export of steel products from South Africa.
  • Scrap trading, i.e. primarily supplying scrap to the local steel mills in South Africa for re-melting.

WHERE DO WE SOURCE FROM

Sourcing is where we have a competitive advantage. Whilst not only having exceptional knowledge of the Southern African Market, we remain agents for the Stemcor Group (a fully independent trading company) and will therefore continue to have access to the large international Stemcor office network.  This ensures a service offering that is unique in South Africa.
